Koei Tecmo Dynasty Warriors remaster releases

Overview

Koei Tecmo has begun releasing remastered versions of its Dynasty Warriors series for modern platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. In early September, the company opened pre-orders for ‘Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered’ for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a scheduled release date of October 1, 2026. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, this edition includes the ‘Xtreme Legends’ expansion and introduces modernized mechanics such as ‘dodge’ and ‘just power guard’.

On September 24, a free demo featuring a reworked ‘Battle of Hulao Gate (Allied Forces)’ scenario was released for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Producer Tomohiko Sho detailed technical performance targets for the October 1 release. High-end consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are expected to run at 60 FPS with 4K upscaled resolution, while the PlayStation 5 Pro will utilize ‘PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and Nanite technology’. The Xbox Series S will target 1080p at 60 FPS, and the Nintendo Switch 2 will target 1440p docked and 1080p handheld at a variable 30 to 60 FPS.

Following its scheduled launch on October 1, 2026, the remaster is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Omega Force, the title features over forty playable officers, including Ziluan from Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and enhanced environments like dense jungles and snowy landscapes. While the game supports local two-player co-op, Koei Tecmo indicated that online co-op for two players will be added later via a free update. In an interview with 4Gamer, Sho noted that while commercial success might lead to further remasters, he personally prefers focusing on original projects or sequels rather than remaking his previous work.
