Sony Interactive Entertainment and the LEGO Group have officially announced a buildable set that recreates the original PlayStation console. Revealed during a PlayStation State of Play event, the 1,911-piece set (identified as number 72306) is a near 1:1 scale model, measuring approximately 26 cm wide, 19 cm deep, and 6 cm high. The set is designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand.

The replica features interactive mechanical elements, including functional Power and Open buttons, an opening disc tray, and a detailed wired controller that can be plugged into the console. The set also includes a brick-built memory card. To celebrate the brand’s history, the console contains two removable dioramas: a Gran Turismo racing scene with a miniature track and cars, and an Ape Escape island scene featuring a customizable monkey helmet.

The set is scheduled for release in October 2026. Early access for LEGO Insiders is set to begin on October 1, with general availability following on October 4. Pricing is set at approximately $179.99 USD, €159.99, or £139.99, depending on the region. Some retailers may offer a limited-time Astro Bot gift-with-purchase.

In a related development, a Swiss team led by Thomas Bertani, creators of the BrickBoy mod, is working on a project called ‘BrickStation’. This mod aims to transform the LEGO set into a functional console using emulation. The plan involves using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W housed in an injection-molded ABS plastic kit designed to fit within the Ape Escape diorama compartment. The modification intends to provide HDMI output for television compatibility and support for both wireless and wired modern controllers via USB.
