LEGO PlayStation console release and Astro Bot availability

Overview

Sony Interactive Entertainment and the LEGO Group have released a 1,911-piece buildable set (72306) that recreates the original PlayStation console at near 1:1 scale. The model includes functional buttons, an opening disc tray, a wired controller, and removable dioramas inspired by ‘Gran Turismo’ and ‘Ape Escape’.

While the accompanying 276-piece ‘Astro Bot’ gift-with-purchase (GWP) set (40899) was initially intended only as a reward for purchasing the larger console set, it has become available as a standalone purchase through the PlayStation Direct store. In this capacity, the set is priced at approximately $24.99, £17.99, or €19.99, with potential 5% discounts for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

The PlayStation set was made available to LEGO Insiders on October 1, 2026, ahead of its general public release on October 4.

In a parallel development, the Swiss-based team BrickBoy is launching ‘BrickStation’ via Kickstarter. This electronic modification kit aims to transform the LEGO model into a functional emulation console, allowing users to play original PS1 games on a TV via HDMI. The kit supports Bluetooth or USB controllers and includes a speaker and vibration motor to mimic the sensory experience of a CD drive. This project follows BrickBoy’s previous LEGO Game Boy project, which raised over €1 million on Kickstarter.
