Mahindra launches updated Thar OG SUV

Overview

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially launched the updated three-door Thar, referred to as the “Thar OG”. Following teaser events in Jodhpur, the facelifted SUV arrived on September 22, 2026, featuring design elements inspired by the five-door Thar Roxx, such as a new honeycomb pattern grille, projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Beyond aesthetic changes, the vehicle received significant mechanical upgrades. It is built on the M-Glyde 4G platform, which offers a “9 per cent higher bending frequency to increase rigidity” and improvements in NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels. The vehicle also features a wider track by 60 mm and a PENTALINK rear suspension utilizing a Watts link and DaVinci frequency-dependent damping shock absorbers. To improve handling, Mahindra transitioned from hydraulic to Electronic Power Steering (EPS).

The engine lineup includes the G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine (approximately 162 BHP/330 Nm), the D22 mHawk diesel engine (approximately 152 BHP/330 Nm), and a smaller D117 CRDe diesel engine (116.9 BHP/300 Nm). Transmission options range from 6-speed manuals to 6-speed automatics. The SUV includes an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) and terrain modes for Mud, Sand, and Snow, with a ground clearance of 232mm.

In India, the Thar OG is priced starting at ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top-tier ZXT reaching nearly ₹18.99 lakh. Safety features include up to six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) suite. The interior features a 10.25-inch infotainment display, USB Type-C ports, and wireless charging in higher trims. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 11, 2026.
