Messi rumor lawsuit settled, dispute ends
Entities: Jorge Messi · Florencia Peña · Nicolás Occhiato · Luzu TV
Overview
The false on‑air report that Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi’s father, had died led to actress Florencia Peña’s dismissal from Luzu TV and a civil suit seeking roughly 750 million Argentine pesos for wrongful termination, lost advertising revenue and reputational harm. Luzu TV founder Nicolás Occhiato confirmed the case had been fully judicialised while sponsor revenue rose, and both sides engaged lawyers and a mediator, Marley, to explore an out‑of‑court settlement.
In mid‑July 2026 Peña announced she felt much better and had reopened dialogue with Occhiato, describing the conversations as “very relieving” and still pursuing a settlement with help from attorney Fernando Burlando.
A week later, Occhiato and Peña publicly declared that a private conversation had resolved the controversy. Occhiato confirmed no legal action would be taken and both parties expressed satisfaction with the outcome, effectively ending the dispute linked to the Messi‑family misinformation scandal.
On 23 July 2026 Occhiato reiterated to América TV that there would be no lawsuit and that both he and Peña were pleased with the resolution, dismissing related conspiracy theories as “absurdo total.”
On 30 July 2026 Occhiato announced that Peña’s contract with Luzu TV had been terminated by mutual agreement. The co‑hosted program “El Show del Verano” will not return to the schedule, but the separation was described as amicable, with no further legal action and the possibility of future collaboration left open.
With the lawsuit withdrawn, the contract ended, and negotiations concluded, the case is now considered closed and no further court proceedings are expected.
