Netflix release of El problema final miniseries
Overview
Netflix released the four-episode miniseries ‘El problema final’ (The Final Problem) on September 25, 2026. Directed by Félix Viscarret, the production is an adaptation of Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s 2023 novel.
Set in the spring of 1959 on an islet near Mallorca, the ‘whodunit’ unfolds when thirteen guests and staff members are stranded at a hotel during a storm. Following the suspicious death of an English tourist, which initially appears to be a suicide, the investigation is led by Benjamin Basil, a retired actor who previously portrayed Sherlock Holmes. The series utilizes a classic mystery structure where the protagonist must rely on observation and memory to solve the crime in the absence of police or modern communication.
The ensemble cast includes José Coronado, Maribel Verdú, María Valverde, and Martiño Rivas. Cast members have highlighted their roles, such as Verdú’s portrayal of an enigmatic hotel manager with a dark past and Rivas’s role as Francisco Foxá, an aspiring writer serving as an improvised assistant to Coronado’s character.
Following its release, the series reached the number one spot for most-watched series in Spain within five days. By October 2026, the Spanish miniseries reached the Netflix global top 10 for non-English language series.
