Netflix release of Italian series Minerva Academy
Overview
The Netflix Italian teen drama series ‘Minerva Academy’ (also referred to as ‘Minerva – La Scuola’ or ‘Académie Minerva’) was released worldwide on September 22, 2026. Directed by Ivan Silvestrini and produced by Picomedia, the eight-episode series blends romance, crime, and mystery within a strict military high school setting in Naples, inspired by the real Nunziatella academy.
The season finale resolves the mystery of Francesco’s disappearance, revealing he is alive but chose to leave the academy to escape physical aggression and humiliation following the exposure of a letter expressing his feelings for another student, Diego. In response to the academy’s internal violence, the Ministry of Defense advised the commander, Achille Giordano, to treat the matter as an isolated incident to protect the institution's reputation. Consequently, Giordano decides to expel Diego, leaving the characters to face shifting relationship dynamics and the consequences of their actions.
The production features a cast including Massimiliano Gallo, Cristina Capotondi, Irene Maiorino, Ciro Minopoli, Biagio Venditti, and Margherita Buoncristiani. Actor Luigi Zeno has received critical and audience acclaim for his Netflix debut as the enigmatic Leonardo, with viewers noting the “authenticity, maturity, and emotional intensity” of his portrayal.
Following ‘Minerva – La Scuola’, the nineteen-year-old actor has expanded his portfolio through several high-profile productions. After completing filming for the Rai 1 production ‘Nemo – Chi ha ucciso Sofia?’, directed by Carmine Elia, Zeno is currently working on a new police series titled ‘Trastevere Blues’, set in Rome and directed by Beniamino Catena and Marco Bocci. His recent trajectory indicates a transition from streaming platforms to generalist television.
