Overview

Following the release of various RPG upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2, Monolith Soft and Nintendo provided further updates during Gamescom 2026. Demonstrations highlighted the dedicated update for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, which aims to resolve previous technical limitations through improved visual presentation and performance.

On 9 September 2026, Nintendo and Monolith Soft announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch on 3 December 2026. This edition is intended to serve as a major title for the new hardware, supporting 4K resolution in TV mode and 1080p in handheld mode at 60 frames per second.

The upcoming release will include new gameplay content, such as a new heroine named Shimmer with a ‘Foresight’ combat mechanic, a dedicated Hero Quest, and a ‘Heroes’ Vault’ mode featuring defensive combat challenges. Similar to previous releases, existing owners of the original Nintendo Switch version can access these enhancements via an Upgrade Pack.
