Plovdiv infrastructure development
Entities: Georgi Stamenov · Plovdiv Municipality · Filipevo railway station · Plovdiv Central Station · Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works
Overview
In late July 2026 the city of Plovdiv began moving forward on several major infrastructure projects. On 30 July the municipal government announced a public procurement to completely replace the water‑sewage network, repave streets and add new green and recreational spaces in the central district. The €9 million plan targets a key traffic artery and aims to resolve frequent pipe failures, with contract bids due by the end of August.
The following day, 31 July, the national Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works approved the first administrative phase of a railway overpass project. The National Railway Infrastructure Company will design a 1.37‑km overpass to replace level crossings on the line between Plovdiv Central Station and Filipevo, double the tracks, raise them, and add three new urban stations. The project also includes a new larger bridge over the Maritsa River and related road‑bridge works.
Together, these steps show Plovdiv’s coordinated push to modernise both utility and transport infrastructure, with procurement and design phases now underway for separate but complementary upgrades.
