Celebrity Traitors series 2 viewership and gameplay updates

Overview

The second series of the BBC reality competition ‘Celebrity Traitors’ has achieved record-breaking success, with its 2026 premiere attracting an average seven-day consolidated audience of 15.41 million viewers in the UK. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman at Ardross Castle, the series features 21 celebrities competing for up to £100,000 for charity.

Gameplay has been marked by strategic shifts and tension. Early episodes saw the recruitment of James Acaster as a Traitor alongside Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant. Recent eliminations include Rob Beckett, who was removed during a ‘chaos murder’ orchestrated by Traitors Acaster, Jama, and Hannah Fry, and Joe Lycett. The series has faced production challenges, including reports of leaked spoilers and accidental information slips by contestants, leading producers to remind players of their non-disclosure agreements. Viewers also noted continuity errors regarding Winkleman’s appearance during a mission.

Internal friction has surfaced among the Traitors, specifically between Acaster, Jama, and King Kenny, following Acaster’s decision to avoid a task to evade detection by sleuths Michael Sheen and Sebastian ‘Bash’ Croft. Additionally, contestant Miranda Hart used the platform to discuss her experiences with chronic fatigue syndrome and Lyme disease. Following a heated dispute with Joanne McNally over a ‘bouncing floor theory,’ Hart was murdered by the Traitors.

As the player count reduced to 10, the show has faced criticism from viewers alleging sexism in the banishment process, noting that a disproportionate number of eliminated contestants have been women. Meanwhile, reports suggest Winkleman has experienced significant pressure and anxiety behind the scenes.
