Vancouver sports teams 2026 season – Aug

Overview

In early July, Vancouver Rise FC sat fifth in the Northern Super League with 10 points, while Ottawa Rapid led the table. On July 12, Rise broke a slump with a 4-2 win over Calgary Wild, and later that day Ottawa earned a 2-1 victory over AFC Toronto at York Lions Stadium, extending its unbeaten run.

By early August, Ottawa Rapid had widened its advantage, defeating Halifax Tides 2-1 in Week 13 to improve to a 10-2-1 record and 31 points, a full-regulation win ahead of Montreal. Forward Delaney Baie Pridham tied for the league’s top scorer with eight goals. Montreal Roses edged Vancouver 4-3 on the road but fell 2-1 at home to the Mighty Maroons, keeping Ottawa in front. Halifax, after a 1-0 win over Rise in Week 14, recorded a 2-1 loss to Ottawa as it seeks its first league victory. The league moves toward the playoff push with Week 15 matchups, including a rematch between Ottawa and Halifax.

On August 9, Ottawa Rapid and AFC Toronto played to a 2-2 draw in the ‘Battle of Ontario.’ The match saw both teams reduced to ten players following straight red cards for Cloey Uddenberg of Toronto and Choo Hyo-Joo of Ottawa. During the event, it was announced that TD Place in Ottawa will host the 2026 Northern Super League Final on November 14.

On August 15, the last-place Calgary Wild ended Ottawa Rapid’s 10-match unbeaten streak with a 4-3 upset at McMahon Stadium. Serita Thurton scored twice in the first half for Calgary, alongside goals from Kahli Johnson and Jorian Baucom. Although Ottawa’s Jung Min-Young, Melanie Forbes, and Jyllissa Harris—who converted an 86th-minute penalty—kept the match competitive, Ottawa was outshot 16-13 despite controlling 54 per cent of possession.
