Veracruz tourism, heritage and cultural programs

In late July 2026 Veracruz announced two complementary initiatives: a free two‑year technical school for tourism professionals and a municipal heritage programme to streamline permits, improve safety and encourage restoration of the city’s 746 catalogued monuments among roughly 5,000 historic buildings. Governor Rocío Nahle García later confirmed that the tourism school will open in September, beginning with 100 students and a capacity of 400 once fully operational. Renovations of two previously abandoned buildings are nearing completion under standards set by the federal Secretaría de Educación Pública, and the curriculum will include practical workshops and basic English certification for local tourism workers. Early August the state expanded its cultural offering with a series of free activities throughout the month. At the Centro Cultural Leyes de Reforma and Casa Benito Juárez, children attended the "Exploradores de la Reforma" workshop, seniors joined a photography class, and an instrumental recital by the Marching Band of Veracruz was held. An Indigenous Peoples Day oral‑tradition session and a senior photography workshop were also offered. In Xalapa, the Jardín de las Esculturas hosted a free summer arts course for youths aged 12‑19, while the 37th International Book Fair (FILAH) featured Veracruz as an invited honor, with concerts, folk ensembles, film screenings and participation from France. The Bohemia Entre Amigos concert at the Foro Boca highlighted collaborations between Veracruz and Chiapas musicians. On 4 August, Governor Nahle announced that the newly rehabilitated buildings in Boca del Río are 90 % complete and will host the Veracruz Tourism School starting September. The free program will train students in English, Mexican and Veracruzan gastronomy, food‑and‑beverage service, hotel operations, tour‑package design and digital promotion, with hands‑on labs.
