2026 Mexican Baseball playoff race (August update)

Overview

The Tigres de Quintana Roo entered the final stretch of the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Béisbol season in contention for a Southern Zone playoff spot. After a 10–5 win over the Guerreros on July 22, they improved to 40-37. They followed this with a 7–6 victory on July 24, reaching 42-37, before a loss to the Pericos de Puebla on July 26 brought them to 42-38.

Meanwhile, the Guerreros de Oaxaca, led by interim manager Javier Valentín following the departure of Roberto “El Chapo” Vizcarra, solidified their position. They secured a 12-1 rout of the Bravos de León on July 28 and a series-clinching 2-0 win on July 31, advancing to face the Diablos Rojos del México.

On August 1, the Tigres’ season finale in Boca del Río ended in a 3–1 defeat to El Águila de Veracruz. Daniel Montaño’s early two-run homer set the tone, and a late sacrifice fly stretched the lead. Calvin Estrada’s ninth-inning solo homer provided consolation, but the loss left the Tigres at 42-39, missing the six-team playoff field.

Following their postseason advancement, the Guerreros de Oaxaca concluded their regular season with an 11-10 loss to the Leones de Yucatán on August 7. The game was decided in the twelfth inning by a solo home run from rookie Oliver Carrillo.

In the postseason, the Guerreros de Oaxaca and Diablos Rojos del México are currently tied 2-2 in their playoff series. After the Diablos Rojos took a 2-1 series lead with a 3-1 victory fueled by a pitching duel between William Cuevas and Trevor Bauer, Oaxaca responded in Game 4 with a 12-3 win. The Guerreros evened the series by capitalizing on a second-inning pitching collapse by the Diablos, highlighted by a Juan Santana grand slam.
