Acre 2026 governorship race solidifies historic coalition

Overview

In early June, pre‑candidate Thor Dantas (PSB) linked former President Jair Bolsonaro’s COVID‑19 handling to his electoral loss and used the issue to rally cultural workers, calling for greater recognition and funding for Acre’s cultural identity. A week later, former Rio Branco mayor Tião Bocalom, also seeking the governorship, dismissed a poll that placed him behind his rivals and pledged to audit state finances, cut wasteful spending and reinvest savings in health, education and municipal support. By mid‑July, Dantas turned to an economic agenda, meeting entrepreneur Beto Abraão Felício to promote expanded credit, vocational training, science and technology, and the industrialisation of Acre’s products as a job‑creating engine. The left‑wing coalition prepared a July 31 convention at Sesc Bosque in Rio Branco to launch Dantas’s candidacy and present its slate. On 15 July, the governing alliance of Progressistas, União Brasil, PL, MDB, PDT and Solidariedade scheduled a July 31 convention at the same venue to formally endorse incumbent Governor Mailza Assis and confirm former federal deputy Jéssica Sales (MDB) as her running‑mate. The Republican Party had already announced a 25 July convention to nominate Senator Alan Rick. Bocalom continued his tour of remote municipalities, urging the construction of a road linking Santa Rosa do Purus to BR‑364 to improve economic integration and public services. Both coalitions are set to present their candidates at the July 31 gatherings, shaping the final phase of the 2026 Acre gubernatorial race. In early August, the Avança Acre coalition held a large launch at Rio Branco’s Sesc Bosque, unveiling a historic ticket of Governor Mailza Assis paired with former deputy Jéssica Sales – the first all‑female ticket for a major state race. The alliance, comprising Progressistas, União Brasil, MDB, PL, PDT and Democratas, also announced Senate candidates Gladson Cameli and Márcio Bittar.
