Ahsoka Season 2 and Skywalker Saga developments
Overview
Following the announcement of the second season of *Star Wars Ahsoka* for January 20, 2027, showrunner Dave Filoni has provided further insight into the season’s structure. Filoni described the upcoming installment as ‘strange’, noting that the narrative will be split between a ‘grounded, war-focused storyline’ set in the standard galaxy and a ‘more supernatural exploration’ of the planet Peridea.
Filoni has indicated that the season will feature a version of the Empire that differs significantly from the era of Palpatine, suggesting a more mysterious and less conventional structure under the leadership of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The season is expected to include live-action depictions of Dathomir and the involvement of the Mortis Gods—the Father, Daughter, and Son—who represent the light, dark, and balance of the Force. These cosmic deities will be used to test the protagonist's beliefs.
To bridge narrative gaps, Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have announced a five-issue miniseries titled ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn’. Written by Rodney Barnes with art by Andrea Di Vito and based on a story by Dave Filoni, the comic will detail how Ezra Bridger escaped Thrawn’s flagship, the Chimaera, while evading Captain Enoch and Nightsister magic. The first issue is scheduled for release on January 20, 2027.
Other returning characters include Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Ahsoka Tano. In related developments, reports indicate Lucasfilm is working on a new *Star Wars* film intended to serve as the official tenth episode of the Skywalker Saga, with Jon Watts slated to direct and Simon Kinberg to write the screenplay.
