Blue Lock live‑action film rollout and box office success

Overview

Following its 7 August 2026 release in Japan, the live-action adaptation of the soccer manga Blue Lock has achieved major commercial success. Within its first ten days, the film earned over 730 million yen and reached 510,000 admissions. In Taiwan, the film surpassed 5 million TWD in its opening week, setting a record for Japanese manga-based live-action films over the last decade.

By 26 August, just 19 days after its debut, the film surpassed the 1 billion yen milestone at the Japanese box office. By 6 September, marking its 31st day of release, the film’s box office revenue exceeded 1.2 billion yen, with 838,360 spectators in attendance.

To celebrate the box office milestone and the fact that the original manga series has exceeded 65 million copies in circulation, distributors will offer special promotional items starting 12 September. These include three types of double-sided illustration cards featuring characters drawn by original manga artist Yusuke Nomura, available on a first-come, first-served basis at participating theaters.

Produced by CREDEUS and directed by Yusuke Taki, the film has been praised for its respect for the source material. Original creators Muneyuki Kinoshita and Yusuke Nomura assisted in script development to focus on the intense awakening of ‘egoists’. The production utilized a large-scale audition process and received supervision from former Japan international Daisuke Matsui.
