Demon Slayer Infinity Castle streaming & sequel update
Overview
The first film of the Infinity Castle trilogy, ‘Akaza Returns’, has achieved significant commercial success across theatrical, physical, and streaming platforms. Following a 266-day theatrical run in Japan, the film grossed over $795 million worldwide, setting a record as the highest-grossing anime film in history. It is the first Japanese film to surpass 100 billion yen in global box office earnings, with approximately $647 million in specific reporting, and earned 37.9 billion yen from over 26 million viewers in Japan alone.
On the home video market, the film secured a ‘double crown’ on the Oricon charts, occupying both the first and second positions on the weekly DVD and Blu-ray charts. These figures make it the best-selling animated film release of 2026 for first-week physical media sales.
Streaming availability has expanded significantly to major platforms. Following its debut on Crunchyroll, the film arrived on Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ on September 28. HBO Max added the film to its catalog on September 29. This transition from exclusive theatrical and niche windows to multiple major platforms marks a significant expansion for the franchise’s accessibility.
Regarding future content, production on Infinity Castle II is confirmed. While a leaked screenshot suggests a potential release for Part 2 as early as September 17, 2027, via Sony Pictures Film, this date remains unconfirmed by official sources like Aniplex or ufotable. The franchise is also expanding into gaming with *Demon Slayer – The Hinokami Chronicles 2* for Nintendo Switch 2, slated for 29 October 2026.
