Disney+ release of ‘The Remarried Empress’

Overview

Disney+ has released a main trailer, poster, and a nine-minute ‘special look’ preview for its upcoming live-action Korean romance-fantasy series, ‘The Remarried Empress’. The featurette includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the lead cast: Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young.

Based on a popular Naver web novel and webtoon with nearly three billion views, the ten-part historical drama follows Empress Navier as she navigates a divorce from Emperor Sovieshu following his interest in a runaway slave named Rashta. Navier reportedly agrees to the divorce on the condition that she is permitted to remarry Crown Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom.

Directed by Cho Suwon with adaptations by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol, the production involved extensive location scouting across Europe. After reviewing 16 different castles, Schleissheim Palace in Germany was selected as a primary filming site.

The series is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 31st Busan International Film Festival in the ‘On Screen’ section, with the first three episodes screening between October 6 and 15, 2026. The full series will begin streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, 2026, with a four-episode premiere. Subsequent episodes will be released every Wednesday, concluding with the season finale on November 25. While positioned as a major release and reportedly Disney’s ‘most expensive Korean production to date’, some online reactions have debated the age gaps between certain actors.

In late September and early October 2026, Disney+ released additional promotional stills to highlight the central cast and shifting romantic dynamics. These images depict key moments, such as Prince Heinrey’s formal introduction to the court and the complex character dimensions of Navier, Sovieshu, and Rashta.
