This research, involving 502 children, indicates that high exposure during the first year of life and around age six may be associated with lower academic performance and reduced working memory, potentially displacing critical developmental interactions. Further research involving brain scans has highlighted potential structural impacts, linking prolonged video gaming to the thinning of the cerebral cortex in the frontal and parietal regions.
