Ghana New Economy Programme implementation

Overview

Ghanaian Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has initiated consultations to prepare for the government’s ‘New Economy’ transformational programme. Announced by President John Dramani Mahama, the initiative involves a US$10 billion investment aimed at transitioning the nation from economic stabilisation toward sustainable growth, wealth generation, and job creation through domestic production.

To ensure oversight, the Finance Minister announced that the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) will monitor and assess the implementation of the programme as it moves from the planning stage to execution. Detailed plans regarding investment allocations and the specific framework for economic transformation are expected to be presented in the 2027 Budget in November.
