Millwall FC player transfers and injury updates

Overview

Millwall has engaged in several roster movements and faced player concerns during the 2026/27 Championship season. The club announced the one-year re-signing of 34-year-old midfielder Massimo Luongo. Additionally, Millwall expressed interest in retaining winger Femi Azeez following interest from Hull City, setting a £30 million valuation for the player. During a 2-0 victory against Bristol City, Azeez was substituted early due to a potential hamstring injury. Manager Alex Neil stated that the club would not be pressured into selling Azeez for less than his market value, emphasizing that Millwall has no immediate requirement to sell key players. As the summer transfer deadline approached, Brighton & Hove Albion intensified its pursuit of the 25-year-old winger. While Millwall had previously rejected multiple bids, including an offer of just over £10 million, a deal was eventually reached on transfer deadline day. Brighton & Hove Albion has reached a club-record agreement to sign Azeez for a fee exceeding £15 million, comprising an initial £12.5 million payment plus performance-related add-ons. The deal, finalized via a deal sheet, includes a four-year contract with an option for an additional year. Following his move, Azeez’s debut has been delayed by a minor injury sustained during Millwall’s opening match against Bristol City. While Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler previously expressed optimism regarding the winger’s availability, he has since announced that Azeez is not yet ready to make his competitive debut. Although Azeez participated in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the recent international break, Hurzeler noted the player experienced minor issues afterward. The manager explained that Azeez’s body requires more time to adjust to the physical intensity and demands of the Premier League, stating that the decision regarding his playing time will be made collectively with the player.
