Netflix releases One Hundred Years of Solitude Part 2

Overview

Netflix officially launched the second part of its adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s *One Hundred Years of Solitude* on 5 August 2026. The release consists of seven episodes, including the ninth episode titled “The Armistice,” which explores the political fallout following Colonel Aureliano Buendía’s wars and the arrival of a foreign corporation and the railroad in Macondo.

Directed by Laura Mora and Carlos Moreno, the series is one of Netflix’s most ambitious and high-budget projects in Latin America. The production was filmed entirely in Colombia, utilizing a massive 540,000-square-meter set in Alvarado. The series was produced by Dynamo in collaboration with the children of Gabriel García Márquez to ensure high fidelity to the original text.

On 26 August 2026, Netflix released the final episode, a cinematic-scale special directed by Laura Mora. The concluding chapter depicts the convergence of the Buendía family history and the ultimate fate of Macondo. To make the complex genealogy more accessible to television audiences, the adaptation employs a linear narrative; however, this choice has drawn criticism from some readers of the original text for omitting certain essential dialogues and temporal shifts.

Netflix has since confirmed that the adaptation is a limited series and will not return for a second season, having concluded the saga by covering the final fifty years of the century depicted in the novel. Following an unconventional release schedule, the nearly two-hour cinematic grand finale also received special theatrical screenings in select Colombian cities through a partnership with Proimágenes. Director Laura Mora noted that the creative team aimed to treat each episode of the second part as an individual film to provide an emotional conclusion to the Buendía family story.
