2026 Georgia Senate race

Entities: Jon Ossoff · Georgia · Mike Collins · Rashida Tlaib · United States Senate

Overview

Incumbent Democrat Jon Ossoff entered the 2026 Georgia Senate race in late May, framing the November contest as a referendum on the state’s political direction and repeatedly attacking former President Donald Trump. After a sharply worded anti‑Trump speech in early June, Trump endorsed Rep. Mike Collins in the Republican primary, and Collins won the June 16 runoff with roughly 53‑56 % of the vote. Early‑July polls gave Ossoff a double‑digit lead (56 % to 43 %), with strong support among Black voters, younger adults, independents and women under 45, while Collins led among white evangelicals, non‑college‑educated white men and rural voters. Inflation topped voter concerns; Ossoff led on inflation, health‑care and political division, while Collins led on immigration. Trump’s favorability in Georgia slipped to 42 % and he labeled Ossoff and Raphael Warnock “illegitimate.” Ossoff’s campaign finance filings show a rapid fundraising surge: total receipts have risen to about $77 million, with cash on hand of $42.5 million as of June 30, making him the top fundraiser among Senate candidates. He continues to brand Trump a “national disgrace” and the head of a “Mara‑Lago mafia.” On July 28, Ossoff delivered another fiery address, denouncing Trump’s administration as “cruel, arrogant and incompetent,” warning that its policies threatened health‑care, voting rights and democratic institutions and urging Georgia voters to repudiate it in November. Two days later, Collins faced heightened scrutiny after a CNN investigation linked his son‑in‑law, David Alan Scheer II, to white‑nationalist and antisemitic activism. Reporters asked Collins about Scheer’s presence in campaign photographs, promotional videos for Collins’s trucking business, and voter‑registration at a Collins‑owned home.
