Global TV & Monitor Competition: Samsung and LG Rivalry

Overview

Samsung and LG continue to battle for dominance in the global TV and monitor markets, specifically within the premium OLED segments. Samsung maintained its position as the world's top TV supplier in Q1 2026, capturing 31.3% of global sales and a 53.4% share of the premium segment. In the monitor market, Samsung Display aims to secure approximately 48% of the mid-to-large OLED monitor segment by late 2026. LG remains a leader in OLED shipments and is working to double its large-format OLED monitor market share to 20% by year-end.

Throughout late summer and autumn 2026, LG implemented aggressive pricing strategies. In September, the LG C5 65-inch model saw prices drop from approximately 3,330€ to 1,149€ in Germany. The LG B6 65-inch OLED reached a record-low $1,119.99 on Amazon, while the 55-inch B6 model was offered for under 950€ at MediaMarkt in Germany. By late October, ahead of Black Friday, the LG C6 55-inch model dropped to $999.99 in the United States.

These discounts coincided with privacy concerns raised by the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus, which suggested LG televisions might record data from home networks while in standby mode. LG denied allegations of continuous recording, stating that voice command processing only begins upon activation and that Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) is an optional feature disabled by default.

LG also expanded its product portfolio, introducing the 2026 RGB evo TV lineup and the MAGNIT Gen 2 Micro-LED display. Additionally, the company is reportedly developing a curved Center Information Display for Porsche using a combination of OLED and LCD technologies.
