Turkish Traditional Archery Championships 2026

Overview

In mid‑June the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Turkish Traditional Archery Federation and the Düzce Provincial Sports Directorate opened the School Sports Traditional Turkish Archery Turkey Championship in Akçakoca. The ceremony, attended by the district governor, mayor and provincial sports director, marked the start of a two‑day competition featuring 660 athletes from 40 provinces across eight youth categories. Regional qualifying tournaments for the Open Air Bow Championships were scheduled for 11‑12 July in five cities – Bursa, Gaziantef, Kocaeli, Konya and Tokat – with roughly 2,820 competitors from 50 provinces. The events covered Mini, Star, Youth and Senior classes, and the top three finishers in each category earned medals and qualification for the national championships: Mini and Star classes in Kütahya (1‑3 August) and Youth and Senior classes in Amasya (15‑16 August). The qualifiers unfolded with opening ceremonies in Kocaeli at İzmit Athletics Track (628 athletes from 30 clubs in eight provinces), Konya’s Saraçoğlu Sports Facility (712 archers from ten provinces) and Bursa’s local athletics field (803 participants). Senior‑women champion Eda Nur Adıgüzel and senior‑men champion Tuğrul Öztekin were crowned, and board member Naşit Gündoğan highlighted the event’s cultural resonance, noting its coincidence with Bursa’s 700th‑anniversary of conquest. On 1 August the federation launched the Minikler and Yıldızlar Open‑Air Championship in Kütahya, drawing about 490 youth archers. The opening ceremony was attended by Governor Musa Işın, TGTOF President Cengiz Toksöz and MP İsmail Çağlar Bayırcı, with Toksöz stressing the event’s role in preserving the ancient “ata sport” tradition. The award ceremony on 5 August featured university rector Prof. Dr. Süleyman Kızıltoprak presenting medals and emphasizing the sport’s cultural legacy. On 15 August, the Youth and Adult Outdoor Puta Turkish Championship commenced in Amasya, featuring 335 athletes from 34 provinces.
