Turkish traditional archery championships

Entities: Kütahya · Musa Işın · Turkey Traditional Turkish Archery Federation · Cengiz Toksöz

Overview

In mid‑June 2026 the Ministry and federation launched the School Sports Traditional Turkish Archery Turkey Championship in Akçakoca, drawing 660 athletes from 40 provinces. Regional qualifying tournaments for the Open Air Bow Championships were held on 11‑12 July in Kocaeli, Konya and Bursa, attracting a combined 2,820 archers from 50 provinces. The qualifiers concluded with senior‑women champion Eda Nur Adıgüzel and senior‑men champion Tuğrul Öztekin, and board member Naşit Gündoğan highlighted the cultural resonance, noting the Bursa event coincided with the city’s 700th‑anniversary of conquest. The top three finishers earned medals and spots in the national championships scheduled for August. On 1 August the federation opened the Minikler and Yıldızlar Open Air Championship in Kütahya, featuring about 490 participants and attended by the provincial governor and TGTOF president, who stressed the event’s role in preserving the ancient “ata sport” tradition. The Kütahya competition continues the effort to broaden participation and select elite shooters for the national stage.
