Restoration efforts are being bolstered by the arrival of additional utility crews and specialized equipment from Maui, Oahu, and Southern California. Southern California Edison has deployed 50 workers to the Puna and Waimea areas, utilizing equipment transported to Hilo via military air shipment. Hawaiian Electric senior vice president Jim Alberts noted that coordination between state leadership and multiple agencies is essential to accelerate recovery. On August 26, President Donald Trump approved a federal emergency declaration for Hawaii. This authorizes FEMA to provide assistance to Hawaii County, Maui County, and the City and County of Honolulu to protect public health, safety, and property. The declaration comes as total damages from Lala are estimated at $81.4 million, with the Big Island accounting for $49.3 million, Oahu $25.6 million, and Maui $6.4 million.
