This initiative aims for 100% herd identification by 2032, moving away from property-based records to unique individual identification for every animal. A key phase in 2026 involves upgrading state information systems and integrating regional databases to enhance sanitary defense and meet international demands for transparency.

Complementing these efforts, meat processing plants are being identified as essential drivers for a green livestock transition. Research from Imaflora suggests that by requiring traceable cattle, these facilities can ensure livestock does not originate from deforested areas, particularly in the Amazon region. Bruno Vello, Imaflora coordinator for Public Policy, noted that because plants concentrate the production chain, they are vital for implementing traceability and reducing uncertainty for producers.
