Buenos Aires infrastructure upgrades & Line 7 probe
Entities: CGT Regional Junín · Junín (city) · Argentine National Government · Junín · Procrear housing program
Overview
In early June 2026 the historic Piedras station on Line A reopened after a city‑wide renovation that upgraded lighting, added accessibility features and restored heritage elements. The provincial government introduced public‑works procurement reforms and the city postponed the Line F subway tender, signalling a shift toward streamlining large‑scale projects.
Mid‑June the municipal administration launched a plan for the former Autopista 3 corridor, auctioning occupied lots and beginning construction of 110 new apartments to relocate roughly 900 families, linked to the monetisation of transit‑adjacent land. Later that month the city legislature approved a US$1.35 billion borrowing package to fund Line F, the first subway expansion in 25 years, with work slated to start in early 2027.
August saw the completion of six residential towers from the ex‑AU3 housing programme and the addition of a fourth lane to a major Buenos Aires‑La Plata highway. The national government auctioned a Palermo parcel to finance infrastructure, and the city opened a tender to restore the Palacio Aguirre façade. Early July legislators introduced bills to investigate the recent truncation of commuter Line 7, while the third phase of the Instituto Bernasconi theatre restoration progressed.
On 14 July the Ministry of Economy announced a public auction of a 21,347 m² Procrear site in Junín, selling the land for roughly US$7 million as part of a broader liquidation of the Procrear trust fund, leaving more than 1,800 families registered for the unfinished units in uncertainty. By late July the CGT Regional Junín union publicly rejected the auction, demanding completion of the homes and allocation to the families that applied, arguing that housing is a right, not a commodity.
