The 17th European Researchers' Night, an initiative of the European Commission supported by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, continues to host hundreds of activities across approximately 25 European countries to promote STEAM careers and bridge the gap between the scientific community and the public.
In Spain, the University of Alicante drew more than 17,000 visitors to its campus and various scientific stations, featuring 75 interactive stands. In Italy, the BRIGHT-NIGHT 2026 edition in Florence attracted over 10,000 participants under the theme ‘Science that Cares,’ utilizing city squares and museums for 57 public initiatives. In Pisa, approximately 2,000 students from 60 institutes engaged in over 70 guided paths and interactive experiments, with a focus on the ethics of artificial intelligence. Additionally, the University of Salerno scheduled an event for October 11 at Villa Comunale as part of the S.T.R.E.E.T.S. project, featuring workshops on redox reactions, DNA observation, and carbon dioxide impact.
In Cyprus, the event marked its 20th anniversary in Nicosia with the theme ‘CELEBRATE 2.0 – Two Decades of STEAM-Powered Inspiration,’ attracting over 5,000 visitors and 2,000 students. In Portugal, activities were held in Évora and Oeiras, with the Business Research Unit at Iscte (BRU-Iscte) hosting events in Lisbon on September 25. These included the ‘Nature Futures: City Therapy’ activity, which used a cooperative board game to teach nature-based urban solutions. In Lithuania, Klaipėda University coordinated national activities on September 25 under the theme ‘It is bright when you know.’
