Overview

Google Photos has completed the rollout of its AI-powered ‘Wardrobe’ feature in Brazil, the United States, and India for both Android and iOS users. The tool catalogs clothing, accessories, and shoes from a user’s library into a digital closet. Users can combine up to six items to create looks or use a virtual fitting room. While prioritized for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, it is also reaching selected user groups. To improve accuracy, Google is developing an update allowing users to “regenerate” images of clothing items to correct AI errors in color, technical details, or logo positioning. Google maintains that personal style data is not shared with third-party retailers.

Recent updates have also introduced ‘Moods’, AI-supported styles that analyze photo details for aesthetic changes, and an improved markup tool with new fonts, adjustable stroke widths, and a pen for obscuring information. Additionally, Google introduced ‘Redact’, a global Android tool for obscuring sensitive information like license plates or addresses using Mosaic or Blur modes.

However, software updates have caused escalating issues for Pixel users. Beyond previous reports of the app becoming unresponsive during editing, the September Pixel Drop and Android 17 QPR1 updates have reportedly caused severe device-level problems. Users of models including the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 8 Pro have reported being unable to enter PINs or patterns, with some devices experiencing black screens or freezing. In some instances, a factory reset has been required to regain device access. Google is reportedly investigating these issues.
