India Railway recruitment exams – latest updates
Overview
Following the Group D Level-1 (CEN 09/2025) computer-based tests held from 3–25 August 2026, the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is expected to release provisional answer keys and response sheets via regional websites once an official notification is issued.
Regarding Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) recruitment, the RRB has provided updated timelines for both Graduate and Under Graduate cycles. For the Graduate Level (CEN 06/2025) recruitment, which targets 5,810 positions including Station Master and Goods Train Manager, CBT-2 results were released on 27 August 2026. Candidates who cleared this stage are scheduled for a Typing Skill Test (CBTST) on 24 September 2026, followed by a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) on 30 September 2026.
For the Under Graduate category (CEN 07/2025) involving 3,058 vacancies, CBT-1 results became accessible on 26 August 2026. The subsequent CBT-2 examination is scheduled for 17 September 2026, and online mock tests are now available for candidate practice.
Expanding on these efforts, the Railway Board has approved 5,165 NTPC vacancies for 2026. This includes 3,477 graduate-level positions—such as Goods Train Managers, Senior Clerks-cum-Typists, and Junior Accounts Assistants-cum-Typists—and 1,688 under-graduate positions for those with a 12th-grade education or below. Station Master vacancies are excluded from this specific count and will be released separately.
The recruitment timeline for these new vacancies involves zonal railways submitting details between 7–15 September, followed by verification processes through late September. The RRB is scheduled to review data from 23–25 September before moving to nodal RRB levels on 26 September. Specific application dates and exam schedules will be provided in a centralized employment notification.
