Rayo Vallecano stadium concession dispute

Entities: Community of Madrid · Rayo Vallecano · Martín Presa · Estadio de Vallecas · Félix Bolaños

Overview

The technical audit on 28 July 2026 identified extensive safety, fire‑protection, wiring, lighting, hygiene and legionella deficiencies at Estadio de Vallecas. The Comunidad de Madrid suspended Rayo Vallecano’s concession, placed the venue under caretaker administration and awarded three urgent‑works contracts on 21 June worth €60 million, with a full €60 million renovation planned over about 24 months to raise capacity to at least 18,500 seats. Rayo must find an alternative La Liga ground; the Butarque stadium in Leganés and the Coliseum in Getafe have been cited, and the 20 August match against Deportivo Alavés will be affected. President Isabel Díaz Ayuso said the decision was coordinated with LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation, and a police complaint was filed accusing the club of obstructing technicians.

On 29 July the regional government reiterated the complaint, claiming the club prevented access for officials sent to carry out the urgent works. The following day, club staff kept the locker‑room entrance locked and allowed only internal cleaning crews inside, prompting Madrid authorities to issue an order to extinguish the concession and assume responsibility for the remedial work. Fans voiced frustration, with some saying they would leave their seats empty if the team is forced to relocate.

Renovation work proceeds under caretaker administration while Rayo searches for a temporary venue.
