Spain and Andorra expand festival safety and prevention

Overview

By mid-September 2026, Spanish municipalities and neighboring Andorra continued to integrate specialized safety, social prevention, and logistical measures into festival programming to combat violence, discrimination, and nightlife risks.

In the Pla d'Urgell region, the Consell Comarcal deployed professionals from the Women's Information and Care Service (SIAD) and the Integral LGTBIQ+ Care Service (SAI) to provide support against harassment. Similarly, in Andorra, the ‘RollingAND’ initiative and various prevention points aim to manage risks related to alcohol and large crowds through cup covers, voluntary breathalyzer tests, and coordination between police, health services, and the Red Cross.

Security deployments have expanded to include large-scale operations in Cartagena, where approximately 2,000 personnel will monitor the Carthagineses and Romans festivities. In Algete, the patron saint festivities will feature a 24-hour ambulance presence and a coordinated strategy involving Local Police, the Civil Guard, and private security. New specialized services have also been introduced in Morón de la Frontera through expanded bus lines, and in Guadalajara via the Red Amparo mobile unit for crisis intervention.

Furthering these efforts, Azuqueca de Henares is launching its ‘Diversión sin agresión’ campaign, which includes a ‘Punto Violeta’ service and the distribution of 2,000 rapid testing bracelets designed to detect narcotics in drinks. In Écija, the local government has also deployed a ‘Punto Violeta’ at fairgrounds, staffed by psychologists and social educators to prevent harassment and provide education regarding consent.
