Uttarakhand development & pilgrimage prep under CM Dhami
Overview
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s administration continues large‑scale infrastructure and safety work across Uttarakhand. Earlier July packages funded road upgrades, flood‑protection embankments and urban beautification for the 2027 Kumbh Mela, while a separate safety plan for the 2026 Kanwar Yatra added travel diversions, women’s toilets and 24‑hour medical posts. During the Yatra (30 July‑11 August), security was intensified. Uttar Pradesh placed the state on high alert after intelligence warnings of a possible terror plot, deploying extra patrols, vehicle checks and rapid‑response teams under a 19‑point dialogue model announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In Haridwar, municipal authorities installed roughly 300 FRP and steel toilets, 60 mobile units and mobilised about 900 additional sanitation workers. Uttarakhand police positioned nearly 6,000 personnel, added CCTV cameras and watch towers, and enforced a temporary ban on meat and liquor shops to maintain order. In late July, Dhami inaugurated eight projects in Gadarpur, including a new bus station and girls’ hostel, and approved a Rs 676 crore package for solar street lighting, water-supply upgrades, and power-network expansion under the Kedarnath Dham Master Plan. By early August, the administration focused on administrative coordination, with Dhami urging public representatives, or ‘Dayitvadharis’, to act as a bridge for resolving local grievances. A subsequent cabinet meeting addressed environmental and safety priorities, including highway clean-up drives, new disaster-management measures, and municipal proposals in Haldwani. To promote spiritual tourism, the state has launched the ‘Mandir Mala Mission’ to beautify religious sites in the Kedarkhand and Manaskhand regions. Ongoing infrastructure includes ropeway systems for Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, alongside the development of the Ganga and Rishikesh Corridors. Additionally, a Centre of Hindu Studies has been established at Doon University to research religion and culture.
