Bursa 700th conquest anniversary celebrations

Overview

The 700‑year conquest anniversary programme, launched in early July, has continued to expand across Bursa’s 17 districts. In late June, Yıldırım Municipality hosted the “Maddi ve Manevi Yönleriyle Bursa’nın Fethi Miniature Competition,” awarding first‑place to artist Rie Kudo. Weekly Mehter concerts at the Saltanat Gate have been held every Friday through 28 August.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Fine Arts Directorate added a music‑composition contest, won by Mustafa Eren Güzel. District festivals have proceeded as scheduled, including events in Osmancık, Kestel, and Yenişehir.

In early August, the Keles district held celebrations at the Orhan Çetin Sports Complex. Attended by local officials including Keles District Governor Burak Bozkurt Gürses and Mayor Ali Doğru, the day-long program featured workshops, animation shows, a planetarium tent, and traditional Karagöz shadow plays alongside stalls run by women's cooperatives. On 12 August, festivities moved to Harmancık Millet Bahçesi. Local officials, including District Governor Muhammed Safa Kömürcü and Mayor Haşim Ali Arıkan, attended the event, which included exhibitions by women's associations, traditional sports such as archery and matrak, and Mehter band performances.

In September, the celebrations expanded to include specialized cultural gatherings. In collaboration with UNIMA Turkey, the 2nd Puppet and Karagöz Meeting was held across seven locations, including the Karagöz Museum, featuring 14 shows by various puppet artists and masters. This three-day event involved 30 Karagöz masters and 14 puppet artists. Additionally, a children's festival was held in the Nilüfer district at Görükle Dumlupınar Primary School, featuring concerts, magic shows, and traditional Karagöz-Hacivat shadow plays.
