Cancer awareness and research initiatives in Canada, FR, and

Overview

Cancer awareness and support initiatives continue to expand across Canada, France, and Morocco. In Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society’s CIBC Race for Life is preparing for its 35th edition in Quebec, featuring Anick Lemay as provincial ambassador to fund research and public health policies.

In France, medical institutions are launching major awareness campaigns throughout September. The CHU Dijon Bourgogne is focusing on hematology, gynecology, and pediatric oncology through public information sessions regarding therapeutic advancements, such as immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and CAR-T cell treatments. In Lyon, the Centre Léon Bérard is participating in the ‘Septembre en Or’ initiative to address pediatric and adolescent cancers. In collaboration with the Hospices Civils de Lyon and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the center will host a public event on September 15, 2026, to highlight research into leukemia microenvironments and tumor cell targeting.

Outreach efforts include a mobile strategy in Mayotte, where health professionals use local community gatherings known as ‘manzaraka’—often centered around weddings—to reach populations that might avoid traditional medical settings. These efforts include information booths in Mamoudzou focused on family planning and screening for breast and cervical cancers. In Le Pouliguen, authorities are mobilizing for the ‘Octobre Rose’ campaign, organizing sporting events like cycling and running to fund a genetic platform for identifying hereditary cancer mutations.

In Morocco, the third edition of Foulées Solidaires will take place on September 13, 2026, in Bouskoura. Part of the Maroc Mouvement Septembre en Or (MMSOR) initiative, the race supports children battling cancer, noting that approximately 700 new diagnoses occur annually in the country. Additionally, singer Patrick Fiori has been named ambassador for the 40th Téléthon on December 4–5, 2026, to fund rare disease research.
