Erciyes tourism and infrastructure development
Overview
The Erciyes ski resort in central Turkey is undergoing a strategic transition toward becoming a year-round tourism destination. Recent winter season data indicates the resort hosted 3.3 million visitors, contributing an estimated $250 million to the national economy. To support this growth, significant infrastructure and hospitality investments are underway, including the construction of the Xperia Luxury Erciyes hotel, new parking facilities, and an 8.2-kilometer bypass road. Under the leadership of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, the region is implementing a ‘12-month tourism vision.’ Erciyes A.Ş. is actively expanding summer offerings to target national and international markets, promoting activities such as gondola rides, summit excursions, trekking, cycling, ATV safaris, camping, and caravan tourism. The region is being marketed as a cool-climate alternative to warmer lowland areas. To complement these offerings, the initiative emphasizes local gastronomy, featuring Kayseri cuisine such as mantı, pastırma, sucuk, and traditional desserts. Recent developments have strengthened the region's role in sports and specialized recreation. The Erciyes High Altitude Camp Center serves as a hub for professional athletes, while Melikgazi Municipality is renovating sports facilities for the Erciyes 38 Football Club, including new synthetic pitches and stands. To further diversify year-round attractions, work has progressed on a mountain coaster project designed by Outdoor Factory. The project has entered the rail installation phase for its approximately 1,100-meter track, which will feature a specialized sled system and a night coaster concept. Expanding on these hospitality investments, the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has announced a tender for a tourism development plot in the Erciyes district of Melikgazi. The 2,036.48-square-meter parcel is specifically zoned for hotel development. The auction, scheduled for September 15, 2026, carries an estimated land value of 23 million TL.
