Overview
The 2026 Italian Under‑20 Championships in Caorle saw more than 1,200 athletes compete, with Veneto topping the medal table. Elisa Valensin won the women’s 200 m, Kelly Doualla took the 100 m in 11.44 s, and Francesco Crotti claimed the triple‑jump title. Both men’s and women’s 4 × 400 m relays were later disqualified, allowing Terni’s women’s quartet onto the podium. Two weeks later at the European U18 Championships in Rieti, sixteen‑year‑old Kelly Doualla set a new European U18 record of 11.14 s (+0.6 m/s) to win the 100 m, while hammer‑thrower Milania Kokhan also triumphed. Youth sport successes continued on 16 July: five Hockey Trissino academy players joined Italy’s U19 squad; Alessandra Talarico helped the U22 women’s volleyball team secure gold in the Netherlands; the U26 women’s bridge side earned bronze in Riga; and the U18 baseball team went unbeaten (5‑0) to reach the semifinals against the Netherlands. On the senior side, Italy’s men’s volleyball team kept an unbeaten VNL run, beating Argentina and Belgium before overturning a 0‑1 deficit to defeat Cuba 3‑1 in Osaka on 19 July. The win secured a place in the VNL Finals in Ningbo (29 July–2 August) and reinforced Italy’s fourth‑place standing. After Osaka the squad flew to Tokyo for final preparations, training at the Todoroki Arena and scheduling a friendly with Japan on 24 July. The team arrived in China on 27 July, training at the Beilun Sport and Arts Centre ahead of a quarter‑final against the United States on 30 July. The 14‑player roster, including setters Giannelli and Sbertoli and opposites Romanò and Bovolenta, remains unchanged. In the women’s competition in Macau, Italy captured its first VNL bronze medal, defeating Brazil 3‑1.
