NBC expansion and award success of The Traitors franchise

Overview

NBC is expanding its ‘The Traitors’ franchise with ‘The Traitors: New Blood,’ featuring a civilian cast of 22 contestants hosted by Alan Cumming in the Scottish Highlands. The series has seen significant growth, with internal data indicating it attracted more than 7 million new cross-platform viewers within its first two weeks. The ‘New Blood’ premiere attracted an average of 6 million users, marking NBC’s largest unscripted premiere in six years for the 18 to 49 demographic. As of episode seven, the prize pot stands at $97,000, with the Traitors identified as Joe Vanella, Tomica Adams, and Katie Fites. In the episode titled ‘It’s Like Fighting Two Pigs Under a Blanket,’ which aired October 22, the Traitors opted to murder Mark rather than target Victor. A mission involving a field of scarecrows added $15,300 to the prize pot. However, tensions during the Round Table resulted in Victor being banished after receiving five votes; he declared himself a ‘Faithful’ upon his departure. Peacock has renewed the US series through season eight and announced a celebrity cast for 2027, including Kristin Chenoweth, Dominic Monaghan, and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim. In the United Kingdom, the BBC’s second series of ‘The Celebrity Traitors,’ hosted by Claudia Winkleman, premiered on October 1, 2026. The series features 21 celebrities competing at Ardross Castle for a charity prize of up to £100,000. The cast includes Michael Sheen, Richard E. Grant, Jerry Hall, James Acaster, Joe Lylett, Romesh Ranganathan, Miranda Hart, Maya Jama, and Bella Ramsey. Following the premiere, actor Richard E. Grant, who was initially selected as a Traitor alongside Maya Jama, became the first Traitor to be banished at the first roundtable after admitting his role. Following Grant's departure, the Traitors recruited comedian James Acaster as their third member.
