Nissan Tekton SUV launches, deliveries and sales surge

Overview

Nissan’s Tekton midsize SUV debuted in India on 9 July 2026 as the “Baby Patrol”, built on the CMF‑B platform shared with the upcoming Renault Duster and produced at the Chennai plant for domestic sales and export to about 50 markets in the Middle East and Africa. The model is offered in six trim levels, priced from ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.59 lakh (ex‑showroom), and powered by either a 1.0‑L three‑cylinder (100 hp, 166 Nm) or a 1.3‑L four‑cylinder (163 hp, 280 Nm) turbo‑petrol engine, both mated to six‑speed manual or DCT gearboxes. Standard safety includes six airbags, ESC, ABS‑EBD, hill‑start assist and tyre‑pressure monitoring; higher trims add Level‑2 ADAS such as autonomous emergency braking, lane‑keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind‑spot monitoring and a 360° camera. The Tekton earned a full 5‑star Bharat NCAP rating.

First deliveries, originally slated for 20 July, began in late July 2026 and were confirmed as underway by Nissan India on 27 July. The company highlighted a claimed fuel‑efficiency of up to 19.4 kmpl and premium equipment including LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charging and large digital displays. The SUV is offered in five trim levels, six colour options with dual‑tone styling, and is built on the CMF‑B platform that it shares with the Renault Duster.

Nissan reported a 218% year‑on‑year increase in July wholesale sales, with 9,339 units (4,518 domestic, 4,821 export) shipped after the launch, a performance the managing director said strengthens the brand’s midsize SUV portfolio. The launch coincided with Kia teasing its upcoming Sorento SUV for the Indian market.

Separately, Nissan tested a right‑hand‑drive prototype of the 2027 Frontier Pro plug‑in‑hybrid ute in Melbourne, showcasing design cues from the Patrol and a dual‑screen cockpit.
