In a related development, Ecuadorian businessman Xavier Jordán was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Doral, Florida, on September 16, 2026. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) characterized Jordán as a ‘criminal illegal alien,’ noting that he had remained in the country past his authorized stay, which expired in August 2020. Reports indicate Jordán’s wife was also detained during the operation.

Jordán is a central figure in the ‘Metástasis’ organized crime case and is also a suspect in the Villavicencio assassination investigation, where Ecuadorian authorities have identified him as a suspected intellectual author. While his defense maintains he had a pending asylum request, the Ecuadorian National Court of Justice formally requested Jordán’s extradition from the United States on July 14, 2026. Jordán is currently being held at the Winn Correctional Center in Louisiana. U.S. authorities must now determine whether to proceed with deportation or address the formal extradition request.
