Starbucks and Japanese cafés expand seasonal menus
Overview
June 2026 saw Japan’s coffee shops debut a coordinated peach-themed summer menu: Starbucks rolled out Craft Juicy Peach Tea and a carbonated Chillax Soda Peach, Gong Cha added a “Peach Full Peach” line, and regional cafés like Campbell Early introduced peach parfaits and pancakes. In late July, Starbucks broadened its Japanese fruit focus with three limited-edition orange-mango drinks launched on 22 July—a Frappuccino blending four orange varieties with mango juice, a carbonated orange-mango soda, and a Craft Juicy Orange-Mango Tea. A “Delight Me” Peach Milk with Creamy Pudding also arrived, expanding to supermarkets on 21 July and nationwide on 28 July. Gong Cha introduced its “Tropical Fruits” line on 30 July, combining mango, orange, and passion-fruit with Alishan Oolong tea.
As the season progressed, coffee chains introduced new seasonal lines to transition toward autumn. On 12 August, Tully’s Coffee launched the ‘Choco Affogato Shaqool’, a chocolate drink using Guatemalan and Costa Rican Arabica espresso designed to mimic an affogato, alongside a five-cheese ‘Ballpark Dog’. Starbucks Japan transitioned from summer to autumn with the launch of two Kyoho grape beverages on 17 August: ‘Houjun Kyoho Frozen Tea’ and ‘Chillax Soda Kyoho’.
In early September, the focus shifted to sweet potato themes. Starbucks announced a ‘Chilled Torori Mitsuimo’ lineup starting 2 September, focusing on the Beni Haruka sweet potato. Tully's Coffee Japan launched its “OIMO” series on 2 September across approximately 850 stores, featuring “OIMO Lattes” and “OIMO Shake-kools” with Beni Haruka sauce, including regional variations with Hokkaido butter, Aomori apples, and Okinawa brown sugar. Tully's also ran a limited-time ‘OIMO Shake’ promotion through 15 September, such as a Naruto Kintoki version in the Chugoku-Shikoku region. Additionally, Sukiya announced the ‘Suki Shake Roasted Sweet Potato’ for 8 September, featuring Beni Haruka sauce and imokenpi toppings.
