Sudden death prevention initiatives in Argentina

In Argentina, regional initiatives are expanding to improve public and institutional responses to cardiac emergencies through training and equipment.

In Corrientes, legislative authorities are considering an ordinance to mandate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid training for all legislative staff. This proposed program would require personnel to complete three in-person sessions within six months of hiring, with renewals every two years. Concurrently, the FleboGen Advanced Medical Institute and the Foundation for the Prevention of Sudden Death are conducting free community workshops.

In La Pampa, the ‘La Pampa Cardioprotegida’ program is marking ten years of operation by expanding its territorial training network. During Sudden Death Awareness Week (August 21 to 27), the province focused on training in CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED). The initiative has certified over one thousand teachers across more than 50 localities. Recent efforts include providing portable defibrillators and intensive emergency cardiac care training to security agents at the Government House Infantry Guard to strengthen the ‘chain of survival’ in public spaces.

Furthering these efforts, police aspirants and cadets from the Instituto Superior Policial (ISP) in La Pampa are undergoing practical simulation training at the Favaloro-Molas Hospital Complex. This collaboration between the Ministries of Security and Justice and the Ministry of Health covers CPR, AED use, hemorrhage control, and trauma assessment to strengthen first response capabilities.

Other institutions continue to implement awareness programs. The National University of Formosa (UNaF) organized an awareness day where Dr. René Ruiz emphasized that a prepared university must include the protection of its community through practical emergency tools. In San Rafael, the Volunteer Firefighters Association is hosting workshops on CPR and AED use to raise funds for essential equipment amidst economic difficulties.
