Turkey summer Qur'an courses and community events

Overview

The Diyanet’s seven‑week summer Qur'an courses, launched in early July 2026, continue to serve as a platform for diverse community activities across Turkey. Sedide Akbulut, General Director of Education Services for the Presidency of Religious Affairs, reported that approximately 2.5 million children participated in the courses nationwide.

Regional activities have expanded through large-scale competitions and specialized seminars. In Van province, students in Özalp and Çaldıran participated in knowledge competitions, including a specific event in Çaldıran focused on memorizing 40 Hadiths. In Şanlıurfa, the programs reached a historic milestone with 100,612 students attending across 2,086 locations, coordinated by the Provincial Mufti's Office and the Metropolitan Municipality. Acting Provincial Mufti İbrahim Halil Aslan noted that the 2026 summer period achieved an “all-time record” for the provincial Mufti Office. These courses were held across 1,690 mosques and 396 Qur'an courses, utilizing 2,831 classrooms and instructors to provide instruction in the Qur'an, basic religious knowledge, and moral education.

Educational focus has also addressed social and psychological well-being. In Adıyaman, programs for students covered the dangers of technology, tobacco, and drug addictions to promote healthy lifestyles. In Giresun, a seminar titled “Emotional Resilience in the Family” was held for women teachers to discuss coping strategies for family crises.

Community traditions of rewarding students remain prominent. In Mersin’s Erdemli district, Imam Ali Köse celebrated 26 years of rewarding participants, with this year’s awards including gold and bicycles for over 90 students. In Bursa’s İnegöl district, a 62-year tradition saw 21 children honored with prizes such as tablets and smartwatches. Other regional initiatives include Samsun’s “Haydi Güle Oynaya Camiye Gel” project, which awarded 2,500 participants, and various competitions in Denizli and Çanakkale.
