France summer festivals 2026 – August updates

Entities: Esplanade Sainte‑Germaine · Gard department · Guillaume Lepers · Nice Philharmonic Orchestra · Pibrac

Overview

Early July saw the launch of Remp’Arts in Val de Cher and the Les Ricochets street‑arts festival, followed by a dense July 25‑26 programme of free concerts, market days and the Olympic flame relay in Montargis. The Avignon festivals drew strong crowds despite heat, and Deauville transformed its centre into a pedestrian‑only shopping zone. The July 31‑2 August weekend highlighted regional events such as Var’s Kermesse in La Seyne‑sur‑Mer, Fréjus’s Azura and Londe Jazz festivals, a Polynesian cultural village in Les Arcs‑sur‑Argens and numerous village fairs across Thiérache, Saint‑Vincent‑Rive‑d’Olt, Echall’arts, Zepetra and Solomiac. Villeneuve‑sur‑Lot opened the summer concert season with Dany Brillant and Plestin‑Les‑Grèves hosted a two‑week DJ series. From 1‑9 August the Creuse department staged the eighth Musique à la Source festival, opened by Julie Depardieu with a mixed spoken‑word and classical performance and featuring artists such as cellist Edgar Moreau, flautist Lucie Horsch and pianist‑improviser Jean‑François Zygel in historic churches and abbeys. The 31 Notes d’été festival continued across Haute‑Garonne through 29 August, delivering about 200 free events. A coordinated guide for the 1‑2 August weekend added free tours of Angers’ Grand‑Théâtre and Abbaye du Ronceray, a pop‑rock concert by Nathan Simonin, Nice’s Critical Mass parade, a Blue Bird Festival concert, a Classic Festival programme with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and an open‑air Belaprem party. In Haute‑Garonne the Poney Club curated chill‑house apéros, techno raves and the Ensemble Musicâme France classical set in Toulouse; the Vosges region hosted a beignets‑râpés fair in Champdray and folk concerts in Saint‑Étienne‑lès‑Remiremont. Cross‑border village festivals appeared in Sarreguemines (DE) and Tilly (BE). The 55th Festival interceltique de Lorient ran to 9 August, mixing Celtic tradition with electro sounds from artists such as Denez and Noon.
