Global solar industry expansion – July 2026
Entities: RWE · Innoptus Solar Team · LONGi Solar · Delft Solar Team · Italy
Overview
July 2026 reinforced the rapid growth of the solar sector, with Chinese manufacturers leading high‑efficiency advances. At Intersolar Europe, Tongwei launched a 770‑W utility‑scale module (TNC 3.0 BIFIMAX) certified by TÜV Rheinland, delivering up to 24.8 % conversion efficiency and a bifaciality rate of 93 %, promising extra rear‑side power for large‑scale farms.
Longi announced a new world‑record 35.5 % certified efficiency for its crystalline‑silicon‑perovskite tandem cell, verified by the European Solar Test Installation in Italy, building on a steady progression from 31.8 % in 2023 to 34.6 % in 2024 and underscoring commercial‑scale potential.
Later in July, Longi deepened its market presence. It partnered with Belgium’s Innoptus Solar Team and the Netherlands’ Delft Solar Team for the 2026 American Solar Challenge, supplying back‑contact photovoltaic technology, including flexible modules for curved surfaces, to test lightweight, high‑conversion cells along Route 66.
In the same period, Longi secured a 300 MWh utility‑scale battery storage project in Italy together with German energy group RWE, employing its LongiBank 2.0 6.25 MWh containerized lithium‑iron‑phosphate batteries for peak‑shaving and ancillary grid services. The deal broadens Longi’s portfolio beyond modules to integrated storage solutions, reinforcing its role in the global solar expansion.
