By August, the Bureau of Office Workers Research Center (BES-AR) indicated the monthly hunger limit for a family of four had climbed to 49,556 TL, leaving the 28,075 TL minimum wage 76.51 percent below the amount required for basic nutrition.

As of late September 2026, discussions regarding 2027 wage increases continue. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has reaffirmed that public employees and retirees will receive increases “at least equal to the rate of inflation,” noting that no additional raises will be provided beyond inflation levels.

Projections for January 2027 increases vary by economic model. The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye has updated its year-end Consumer Price Index (CPI) forecast to 28%, which would result in a 6.67% increase for civil servants and an 8.7% inflation difference for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees. Under the Medium-Term Program (OVP) target of 28.4%, retirees could see a 9.89% increase. Conversely, market participant surveys and academic indices suggest higher inflation near 30.32%.

By late September, focus shifted toward upcoming inflation data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), scheduled for release on October 5, 2026. This data will determine the legal ceiling for rent increases in October. Additionally, economic scenarios for the 2027 minimum wage suggest potential net increases of 20%, 25%, or 30%, which would subsequently impact unemployment benefits and severance pay ceilings.
