Olympiacos squad overhaul, captain deal

Entities: Olympiacos FC · André Luis · Sporting Kansas City

Overview

After clinching a historic EuroLeague crown and a domestic double in May 2026, Olympiacos entered a period of roster restructuring. Coach Georgios Bartzokas secured a three‑year extension to 2029, and captain Kostas Papadikolao renewed his contract through summer 2028. In early July the club highlighted the captain’s leadership and his multi‑year deal.

On 11 July 2026 the club confirmed that it is exploring a transfer for 24‑year‑old Brazilian forward Andre Luis. Interest has come from MLS side Kansas City (offering around €18 million) and German side Wolfsburg (valuing him near €20 million). Proceeds are expected to fund further signings as Olympiacos has already added Zota Silva and is scouting players such as Zoriko Davitashvili, Petr Stanic and additional forwards and midfielders. At the same time Papadikolao signed a new two‑year contract reportedly worth about €2 million, reinforcing his role as a key forward alongside Taisson Ward, with Evan Fournier listed as an option.

By 24 July 2026 the club turned down a €17.5 million bid from Kansas City (reported as KANSA) for Luis, a figure that would rise above €18.5 million with bonuses. Reports indicated Olympiacos is now weighing a larger “super” offer that could be hard to refuse. Wolverhampton Wanderers of the English Premier League submitted a £12 million bid plus performance bonuses, and interest continues from Portuguese clubs and other MLS teams. Luis missed recent friendly matches, fueling speculation that his absence is linked to the pending transfer, and suggesting financial considerations are pushing the Greek side toward a sale before the window closes.
