TV Globo Avenida Brasil sequel production
Overview
TV Globo has confirmed that the sequel to the hit telenovela “Avenida Brasil”, also referred to as “Avenida Brasil 2” or “Filhos do Divino”, is scheduled to premiere on January 25, 2027, in the 9 p.m. timeslot. Written by João Emanuel Carneiro and directed by Ricardo Waddington, the production is set 14 years after the original events in the fictional Divino neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.
The plot follows Carminha (Adriana Esteves), who returns after serving a prison sentence as a transformed woman involved in social work. The narrative will explore her relationship with her daughter, Ágata (Karol Lannes), and the return of Nina (Débora Falabella), who is confirmed to appear throughout the entire series. A central plot point involves the tragic death of Monalisa in a car accident, an event that sparks suspicion among characters. Actors Gabriel Fuentes, Bruno Montaleone, and Fábio Scalon are in competition for a key role as Carminha’s new lover, a character intended to fill the narrative space previously occupied by Max.
Confirmed returning cast members include Murilo Benício as Tufão, Cauã Reymond as Jorginho, Eliane Giardini, Marcos Caruso, Letícia Isnard, Juliano Cazarré as Adauto, and Drico Alves as Juninho. New additions include Jéssica Ellen and a special appearance by singer Belo. While actress Vera Holtz will not participate, Isis Valverde has expressed interest but has not received an official invitation. The production aims to preserve the “fast-paced narrative style and constant plot developments” of the 2012 original while reflecting a changed Brazilian landscape.
