New Jersey Shore summer 2026

Entities: Mazatlán · National Weather Service · U.S. Coast Guard · NWS · Aquatic Rescue Squad

Overview

The July heatwave that drew thousands from Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore kept beach‑safety alerts active. After a series of moderate rip‑current warnings on July 5, 8‑9 and a low‑risk outlook on July 10, the National Weather Service maintained alerts. On July 12 a moderate rip‑current risk was forecast with 1‑2 ft waves, northeast winds of 6‑9 mph, ocean temperatures of 73‑83 °F and a very‑high UV index of 9. Tide tables for Sandy Hook, Long Branch, Manasquan, Seaside Heights and Atlantic City were published. The service then issued July 18‑19 forecasts: July 18 kept a moderate rip‑current risk, a Code Orange air‑quality alert and a Small Craft Advisory as south‑westerly winds of 15‑25 kt produced 3‑6 ft seas and 1‑3 ft waves; UV fell to moderate (4). By July 19 the rip‑current risk eased to low, wave heights rose to 2‑4 ft, northwest winds reached 18‑22 mph, temperatures hit 80‑84 °F and the UV index climbed to a very‑high 8. Lifeguards continued urging swimmers to stay near protected stations. On July 23 the National Weather Service again projected a moderate rip‑current risk with life‑threatening conditions possible, wave heights of 2‑4 ft and north winds of 11‑17 mph (gusts to 24 mph). The UV index was very high at 8, tides were low around 9:45 a.m. and high near 4:00 p.m., and seas were 3‑4 ft with a chance of afternoon showers. A further update on July 27 kept a moderate‑risk rip‑current warning in place and added a Small Craft Advisory. Winds shifted to 10‑20 kt (gusts up to 30 kt) from the south, seas grew to 3‑6 ft and waves ranged 1‑4 ft. Ocean temperatures were 72‑81 °F, air temperatures 77‑86 °F, and the UV index fell to low.
