Castilla-La Mancha rural development initiatives
Overview
The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha continues to prioritize rural development and the fight against depopulation through economic diversification and targeted financial aid.
Officials have reaffirmed the importance of Local Action Groups (GAL) in managing European funds to stimulate small municipalities. The 2014-2022 Rural Development Program (PDR) is credited with mobilizing over 520 million euros, supporting more than 6,000 projects and creating over 12,000 jobs. To ensure long-term territorial cohesion, the administration is advocating for robust funding under Pillar II of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Recent data indicates significant activity in the regional employment and entrepreneurship sectors. The regional Employment Platform has reached nearly 1.9 million unique visitors and manages over 9,550 job offers, with more than 4,600 employers registered. Entrepreneurship aid has seen a 25.13% increase in applications compared to the previous year, totaling 13,155 requests. Through programs such as ‘Tarifa Plana Plus’, more than 10.2 million euros have been distributed to 5,100 self-employed workers. Notably, applications show strong participation from women (47.89%) and youth under 30 (27.28%).
Furthermore, specialized training initiatives like ‘Taller Plus’ in Hoya Gonzalo and Pioz continue to combat depopulation by combining professional training with practical work in sectors such as forestry and fire prevention. Stakeholders emphasize that sustainability depends on integrating agriculture and livestock with local commerce and services to maintain functional, vibrant towns.
